The 27th SEGH 2010 European Conference will be held in Galway, Ireland.

Conference Background

SEGH 2008, is co-organised by the Hellenic Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME) and the Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (UOA) in Athens, Hellas, from the 31st March to the 2nd April 2008.

The conference will focus on Health Implications of Environmental Contamination.  Oral and poster papers will be presented on all aspects of environmental geochemistry and its impacts on health. Contributions on health implications of mineral pollutants, especially asbestos and on studies of air pollution and health will be particularly welcome.

Papers are invited from students and post-doctoral fellows, as well as from established researchers. Prizes will be awarded to the best oral and poster presentations by postgraduate research students.

An interdisciplinary SEGH workshop for researchers, risk assessors and policy-makers:
FROM RISK ASSESSMENT TO RISK RESPONSE
Communicating Complex Risks To Concerned Stakeholders

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from across Europe, to explore ways of improving risk communication about environmental threats to health, in order to enhance risk management and risk response.

Contributors will include researchers from a number of major, current EU-funded projects, as well as leading international researchers in the field of risk communication and risk assessment. The workshop builds, also, on a highly successful SEGH workshop on ‘Multiple Links Towards Integrating Teams for Understanding of Disease and Environment (MULTITUDE)´ held in Liverpool in June 2007, and the recent NATO-funded project on Managing Effective Risk Response – an Ecological Approach (MERREA).
